Programs

The Bainbridge Blacksox select baseball program serves families across Kitsap County, including Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton, and Port Orchard. Our travel teams run from September through March, providing competitive tournament play and focused player development while supporting multi-sport participation and Little League involvement.

The Annual Cycle

July: Annual tryouts held for all age groups

September - March: Select season with practices, scrimmages, and tournaments

April - August: Break for Little League season, with optional select opportunities

This structure allows players to experience both select baseball development and the community tradition of Little League, without forcing early single-sport specialization.

Why Choose Blacksox?

  • Competitive select play serving all of Kitsap County
  • Experienced coaching and youth mentorship
  • Limited travel - mostly Washington tournaments
  • Multi-sport athlete support
  • Little League partnership and respect
  • Break-even organization focused on players
  • Indoor facility on Bainbridge Island for year-round training

Tryouts

We hold annual tryouts each July for all age groups. Tryouts are open to any player looking for high-quality coaching, player development, and a competitive, supportive team environment.

Age Groups

We field teams for:

  • 8U
  • 9U
  • 10U
  • 11U
  • 12U
  • 13U
  • 14U (Beginning July 2026)

Age Determination: A player's age on May 1st of the current year determines eligibility (Top Tier Tournament standard).

Who Can Try Out?

Everyone is welcome:

  • Players from anywhere in Kitsap County
  • Players from other select teams
  • Little League players
  • Recreational players
  • Off-island players
  • First-time select players

If your child cannot attend the scheduled tryout, we can often accommodate make-up evaluations. Contact us in advance.

Roster Decisions

Rosters are typically finalized in late August, giving families time for summer adventures.

We anticipate being oversubscribed in our early seasons. For players not selected for a team, we offer monthly clinics focused on skill development and preparation for future tryouts.

Development Season (September - March)

Our fall/winter season focuses on player development, fundamentals, with some competitive tournament play. We emphasize quality over quantity, with practices, scrimmages, and 5-6 tournaments throughout the season.

Season Structure

Season Duration: September through March

Practices: 2-3 per week

Practice Locations:

  • Blacksox Day Road indoor cage facility
  • BISD Gymnasiums
  • Various Bainbridge outdoor fields

All facilities are on Bainbridge Island (pending scheduling with BISD).

Tournament Schedule

Total Tournaments: 5-6 per season

Fall: 2-3 tournaments (Sept-Nov)

Winter/Spring: 2-3 tournaments (Jan-March)

Location: Mostly in Everett, Centralia, and Puyallup, etc.

Occasional out-of-state travel depending on team level and performance, but unlikely.

Scrimmages

We love local scrimmages throughout Kitsap County, especially Monday-Friday games. Scrimmages are opportunities to:

  • Try out new ideas
  • Give players position opportunities
  • Tinker with batting order
  • Build game experience

Common venues: Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton, and other Kitsap County locations (often on turf, sometimes under lights)

Tournament Season (April - August)

We love and support the Bainbridge Island Little League. Every spring, we ensure our players can participate in the important community tradition of Little League.

Our Little League Partnership

Little League is an extremely important and enjoyable part of any youth baseball player's experience. We plan to enable the full participation of our players in:

  • Little League regular season
  • All Star season
  • Community baseball traditions

We avoid scheduling any conflicting activities during Little League All Star season.

Competitive Tournament Play

On a team-by-team basis, we will explore select tournament or league opportunities in the spring as they present themselves.

Important: This will operate as a separate commitment from the Development season.

We will avoid conflicts with Little League commitments.

Express Interest

Cost & Equipment

We aim to keep fees transparent and competitive while offering a premium select experience. We run the organization as a break-even endeavor.

Development Season Fee

Cost: $950 for September through March season

Covers:

  • Coaching and field rental
  • Tournament entry fees
  • Practice facility access

Team Uniform: $150-200 (separate from season fee)

Note: Pricing will increase after Year 1 as we finalize facility leasing agreements and operational costs.

Tournament Season Fee

Cost: Varies by team and tournament participation

Player Equipment

Players will need personal gear:

  • Baseball glove
  • Bat (USSSA bats allowed in tournament play)
  • Cleats
  • Gray batting helmet (specific model will be recommended)

Catchers: Must provide their own gear

Tournament play allows USSSA bats, which have a noticeable performance increase compared to USA bats.

Any additional required training gear will be communicated by coaches prior to the season.

Financial Aid

We believe cost should not be a barrier to development and team membership. Financial aid is available for families who need assistance. Please reach out confidentially to discuss options.
